To celebrate world book day, here’s a fun project you can do at home:
Art Project: Repurposed Hedgehog Book
Materials: An old book, pom-pom, googly eyes and glue
Find an old book at home that is ready to go to the charity shop – we would recommend thin books for younger readers (about 40 pages or so). Carefully remove the cover and binding from the book. Tear 4-5 pages out and set aside.
(you will need to repeat the process for all or most of your pages (little hands may need help!)
First, fold your book page down and inward at an angle.
Now, fold the rest of the page over, towards the centre of the book.
Continue this process until the book has been completely folded, or you are happy with the size of your hedgehog. (We did about 40 pages.)
Next, take the 4-5 loose pages and cut them in half. Stack the halves together, and cut one end into spikes. After every few folds of the hedgehog, glue a half page with spikes facing upward in between the folds.
To finish off, stick your pom-pom on as your hedgehog’s nose, and then your googly eyes!
