In this art box we delve in depth into how a variety of artists have used the many hues and tones of blue in their artwork. And we look at different types of art materials (in shades of blue! – from Earth Paints and acrylics to oil pastels) and how we can use them to create crashing wave dioramas, abstract collages, painted swimming pools and blue chairs!

The Big Blue Box
Blue is the most popular colour of all. On the one hand, it is the colour of things we all love, a cloudless sky and the open sea; on the other hand it can be used to describe a state of sadness.
In this art box we look at artists old and new to inspire us to create and experiment with a variety of different mediums… all in blue! We look at the colour blue in an abstract way and make textured paintings and build shape collages; we look at blue waters and learn how to make pool patterns as well as wave dioramas; we think of blue feelings and paint blue portraits and glue together blue dancers! Finally we look at how artists use the colour blue in interiors, and design our own painted blue chair!

What art materials will I receive?
This box includes sachets of blue and white Earth Paint, two tubes of different shades of blue acrylic paint, a small tube of white acrylic paint, a set of oil pastels, a paint-brush, blue paper, decorated paper, water-colour paper and raw paper.

When will my box be delivered?
