Stunning Stockings
In this box we look in more detail at the folk art of Scandinavia, Mexico and Central Asia. These three cultures and their different styles inspire us to paint a GIANT Stocking of our very own to hang up this Christmas! Other projects in the box include patterned-paper tree decorations and colourful banners, as well as beautiful water-colour painted gift tags to adorn our presents.

The Stunning Stockings Box
For this special seasonal box, we have turned for inspiration to the folk-art traditions that have become a major influence on our Christmas accessories – first of all on that central feature, the tree, then on its decorations, on the candles, the stockings and, indeed, on the story of Santa Claus himself. We have even looked beyond the Christian world and adapted other peoples’ decorative motifs to our Christmas accessories.
Folk art everywhere tends to have a love of bright colours and distinctive patterns. It also favours a more “naive” simple form of art, being rooted in communities and the work of local artisans.
In this box we look at the Central Asia art of Suzani to inspire us to paint a beautiful stocking; we look at the folk art of Scandinavia to decorate some colourful paper tree decorations; we explore Mexican Papel Picado to create some lovely garlands; and finally we discover paint washes to make some stunning gift tags!

This box includes a set of gouache tube paints, a large cotton stocking, a paint-brush, sticky glitter paper and water-colour paper
