In this art box we examine how a variety of artists look at water and the ocean – be it under the surface, at the diversity of fish, sea creatures and coral reefs, or on the surface, at the tides and the waves with their ever-flowing ripples, and how humans interact with water, be it by swimming, in boats or by helping to conserve our oceans and its wildlife for future generations.

What is inside the Under the Sea Box?
Poets and artists alike have forever been drawn to the sea. There is something enticing about its mystery and its ever-changing motion. Water has long been a universal image of change; it is forever flowing and it can follow any course. Stand with your imagination beside an ocean’s edge and you never know where you will be taken.
Artists’ works that depict the sea are called seascapes (as opposed to landscapes). And these may be paintings, etchings, engravings or even photographs. The term originated around the year 1790.
In this art box you will explore artist’s work old and new as inspiration to create your very own fish mobile, wave collage, multi-media coral island, paper jelly fish, as well paintings of fish, swimmers and coral.

What art materials will I receive?
This box includes a set of colourful inks, a pipette, a paint-brush, coloured papers, PVA glue, water-colour paper, black card and foam clay
